What a life
George Best had lived - the booze, the women, the gambling,
and of course, the football. He will always be remembered
as a sporting legend and one of Manchester United's greatest
footballers. He was a key player in United's European Cup
winning side in 1968, scoring a vital goal in the 4-1 win
over Benfica and being awarded the European Player of the
Year award the same season. He still holds the record for
scoring six goals in one game in the FA Cup away at Northampton
- to put it simply, the Belfast Boy was simply the Best. George
died on November 25th 2005. |

Hard
Tackles & Dirty Baths - The Inside Story of Football's
Golden Era |
By
George Best |
Publishers
Ebury |
2005 |
Released
just days before George Best was admitted to hospital, this
was to be his final book. Harking back to a golden era of
football, from the 60s to the early 70s, before money and
marketing took over football, George tells of his own experiences
and those of his friends. The book follows the drama and intrigue
of each successive season (1963 to 1973) in league, cup and
abroad, these were the years of United's rebuilding after
Munich, George and Sir Matt's eventual triumph. Superb reading
from a superb footballer!!! |

Always
Alex - My Story |
By

Blake |
2005 |
The
autobiography of George Best's second wife tells the story
of the latter stages of his life. It's a one-sided account
of their troubled marriage which ended when his alcoholism
and infidelity became too much for her. Like the earlier book
from his first wife, Angie Best, George felt that this book
was nothing more than just a way of making money out of his
name (a name which both ex-wife's had also kept). Nonetheless,
there is still a story to tell even if it does provide an
insight into the side of George Best's life fans would rather
forget. |

the greatest British player ever. In Scoring at Half-Time
he gathers together his favourite memories, stories and anecdotes

George
Best candidly reflects on the story of his rise and fall.
He revels in a brilliant career with United, being a media
darling, with a Miss World or two on his arm. But he also
calmly recounts the lows: a litany of professional and domestic
woe, including his fight with alcohol, that public humiliation
on Wogan and being arrested once or twice. Superb! |
