"And also the Blowout gigs at the Bierkellar, we usually play terribly, but they're good gigs. Mostly club nights in not-proper venues are usually the best ones, it's just more of an event if it's not a seven day a week venue. " - Sam Forrest of Manchester Gig's

Nine Black Alps | from asbestos plant worker to now in 2 years! |
|
Nine Black Alps, they’re from Manchester but you won’t hear that in their sounds. They’ve looked well beyond their front door – and even over an entire ocean – to find their inspiration, crushing out on American artists like Sonic Youth and Elliott Smith, as opposed to famed Manc’s such as The Smiths and Happy Mondays and New Order. The result is a band that sounds raucous, bursting with un-harnessed energy and angst.
Named after a line in a Sylvia Plath poem, Nine Black Alps – Sam Forrest (Vocals/Guitar), James Galley (Drums), David Jones (Guitar) and Martin Cohen (Bass) – tread down a path of desperation, death, love and desire, giving each of their songs a ferocious urgency. Using McCartney and Lennon melodies to fit in with a late-20 th century American guitar framework.

In 2003 NBA released their first single. Cosmopolitan, was written when Sam’s girlfriend left a copy of a magazine which he read that name him feel ‘old, undersexed, poor, ugly and stupid’ This was the single that managed to put them everywhere overnight, a barrage of backlit noise.
The next track came soon after. Shot Down was probably the rawest track on the album. 60’s garage rock hyper-driven up by 00’s power. This track got the band in to the top 25 and gave them even more exposure!
The beginning of 2004 and we have Not Everyone, with a riff that would punish most mosh-pits the world over and was one

of the albums most brutal tracks on the album. |

Nearly two years after the release of the first single NBA released their first album titled Everything Is. 12 tracks of equally diverse sounds. Heavy music with a pop sensibility: it’s not rocket science, but in Nine Black Alps’ hands, such simple formulas become impressive alchemy.
Recently released off the album was Unsatisfied. Imagine a hungover and pissed-off George Harrison circa 1965 having a dig at his girlfriend. Reaching 30, showing that this little known band is going places!
The mixture of different styles and influences coming through from various different artists make it easy to see that Nine

Black Alps are a special group. They are raising to a well deserved high and will defiantly be one to watch in the next few months both live and with up coming studio work. |
