mike mcgoldrick | following his nu-routes
Mike Mcgoldrick

Mike McGoldrick has been in the studio working on a brand new album as a folow up to 'fused'. The album is expected to feature well known jazz saxophonist and percussionist Parv - who is currently one of the hottest talents on the UK session scene. Other 'usual suspects' will include Donald Shaw, Ewen Vernal and possibly, a vocal track from Karen Matheson.

The album should be released shortly. He will also be making a few appearances, including Glasgow on 25th of January at The Arches, 26th of January with Dezi Donnelly at the Piping Centre. Then in February he will be on the Nu-Routes Tour with Ed Boyd, John Kelly and Rachel Unthank. On the 4th of February they will be at the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford-on-Avon, 5th at the Fishpond in Matlock Bath, 6th at the Beverley Leisure Centre, 7th at the Hebden Bridge Trades Club and also on the 8th at the Warwick Bridgehouse Theatre.


david gray | a new gray at midnight

Manchester born folkster, David Gray, has resissued his entire back catalogue, following the success of the multi-million sellers, 'White Ladder' and 'Lost Songs' and later, 'A new day at Midnight', released October, 2002. Together with his brilliant early albums, 'Flesh', 'Sell, Sell, Sell' and 'A Century Ends', there is also another CD, 'The EPS 92-94', which gathers together early tracks that he recorded for the Hut label. David Gray confirmed to play a one off show in March this year as part of the Passport Back to the Bars gigs in aid of War Child and Shelter.

Click here for our Flook Pages Following a long tour in 2003, including many festivals and a fantastic album release with their second eagerly awaited offering Rubai in 21 of October 2002,(nominated as Album of the Year in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards), there seems to be no resting period for the band Flook. They are currently touring the US over January, then to Holland, Glasgow, then again to America. They returnin to the UK in February to make an appearance at the Lowry on Sunday 29th of February.

Peter Saville January 4th marked the 18th anniversay of the untimely death of Manchester's Irish rock legend, Phillip Lynott. Although they will never be the same without him, the remaining band members are currently touring with Deep Purple in the US and the boys may not be back in town for a while, but you can catch them all on the DVD, 'Thew Boys are Back in Town' released last year. The DVD features Phil Lynott and Gary Moore.
manchester irish festival | the popes visit
Manchester boasts the biggest Irish Festival in the UK with this year being the 8th annual event to take place in the city and this year it looks like its going to be fantastic. The Festival will take place between the 6th and the18th March 2004 and Shane McGowan & The Popes will be making an appearance at the Apollo on the 20th March, (2 days after the festival itself) with Manchester's own Mark Radcliffe and Family Mahone. The fantastic Toss the Feathers will also be causing a storm.
