~ Manchester 235's Pornstar Martini ~
It's interesting to see how the main cocktail of choice changes as each year goes by when we count the votes up. 2007-08 was the year of the Caipirinha, 2008-09 the Mojito and 2009-10 the Pornstar Martini. And of all those that we tasted last year, it's safe to say that we agree with our members' votes as the best of these seductive cocktails was being served up at the super casino's plush bar.
Surprisingly there's no Martini in the drink, which instead contains vanilla Vodka, passion-fruit liqueur, Champagne and chunks of fruit.
Manchester235 also offer a cocktail masterclass which is a great idea for a birthday party or corporate event... although you'll do well to make Pornstar Martinis as good as these!
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
~ The Modern's Airmail ~
There's not many better places in town to sip a cocktail than on the top floor of Urbis. And there's not many better cocktails to sip than their signature Champagne cocktail.
Dating back to the 1920's, this mix of Havana rum, honey, fresh lime and Laurent Perrier NV Champagne, also known as The Honeysuckle, offers a fresh and sweet taste.
It's just one of an extensive range of speciality cocktails, mixed by some of the best bartenders in town and fully deserving of its place in the ManchesterBars.com Best Cocktail in Manchester shortlist yet again.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
~ Obsidian's Pisco Sour ~
OK, we're not happy about this amazing drink being nominated. It's our personal tipple and the fact of the matter is that stocks run very low in the only 4 or 5 bars in town that we know sell it, of which, the superb cocktail bar below the Arora Hotel on Princess Street certainly makes the best.
The debate between the warring countries of Chile and Peru as to the origins of Pisco date back for centuries - the first Saturday of February each year is National Pisco Sour Day in Peru, where you'll also find the town of Pisco. Normally in European bars you can only find Chilean Pisco, however Obsidian offer both varieties.
Following their 2 cocktails for the price of 1 offer to Pride Of Manchester members in November, we recommended the South American grape liquor cocktail and, as a result, amongst others available at the swanky basement bar, it received loads of votes.
There's also a free Cocktail Club at Obsidian which rewards members with complimentary cocktails for loyal custom.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
~ Piccadilly Lounge's Basil Cherry Blush ~
City Inn's stylish, cosmopolitan cocktail bar has been voted onto this year's shortlist with their Basil Cherry Blush the most popular of their ten signature cocktails.
Fresh raspberries are shaken with torn basil leaves, cherry vodka, lemon juice and cranberry nectars to give the drink its fruity taste.
The Basil Cherry Blush is just one highlight on Piccadilly Lounge's cocktail menu which features over fifty different Martinis, vintage and contemporary cocktails. You can learn the tricks of the trade in making many of these too with Piccadilly Lounge's Cocktail Masterclass.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
~ Walrus's Purple Haze ~
The popular Northern Quarter bar is famed for its funky drinks menu which lists its speciality cocktails by rating their fruitiness, sourness and sweetness without giving away their secret ingredients.
The Purple Haze, six parts fruity, four parts sweet and two parts sour polled the most votes from Walrus's fifteen signature cocktails. The taste of cucumber and raspberries being the most obvious flavours.
Walrus also offer classic cocktails, mixed by some of the best bartenders in town, their Brambles and Amaretto Sours are very worthy of note.
