ManchesterBars.com Awards for Best Best Bar in Manchester
With so many bars, pubs and clubs to choose from in the Manchester area, choosing the 'Best Bar' is almost impossible, especially given that it's always down to personal opinion. Some people love swanky cocktail bars, others prefer real ale pubs. Clubbers prefer the dance scene whilst folkies crave their live music. The masses may head to the lively chain bars but, for some at least, they're more at home in a backstreet boozer. That's why we put the decision to the vote.
From the 6,690 votes cast by ManchesterBars.com readers throughout 2009 and also those submitted by members of Pride Of Manchester and ManchesterTheatres.com, 327 different bars, pubs and clubs picked up nominations with the final shortlist for Best Bar in Manchester 2009-10 being (in alphabetical order)....

~ Bluu ~
After kick-starting the popularity of this part of the Northern Quarter back in 2005, it's incredible to think, such is the Bohemian and arty vibe, that this is actually part of a chain that was started by the same team behind Fat Cat Cafe.
With its eclectic mix of retro furniture and 80's styling, Bluu boasts great drinks, great food and a relaxed atmosphere brought to live with DJs spinning everything from funk through to vintage soul and broken beats.
Bluu polled plenty of votes from Pride Of Manchester members who obviously help make this one of the busiest bars in the Northern Quarter.

~ Cinnabar ~
This £4.5 million on the edge of the city centre is truly breathtaking and, having sold over 4,000 tables online alone for its downstairs restaurant, Vermilion, we were not surprised to see it voted into the shortlist.
Cinnabar is undoubtedly the most impressive looking bar in Manchester, as you would expect from the same designer behind Johnny Depp, Sean Penn, John Malkovich and Mick Hucknall's joint-owned Man Ray bar in Paris.
The huge pods get busy at weekends so its advisable to book them in advance although, wherever you sit in Cinnabar, you're guaranteed an impressive view and, of course, an equally impressive cocktail.

~ The English Lounge ~
Enjoying a massive upsurge in popularity since the redevelopment of this part of the Northern Quarter and the new-look Arndale Market, which sits opposite, this large High Street boozer easily made the shortlist again this year.
As the name suggests, this is the most 'English' of venues with leather sofas, bookshelves, prints on the walls and lots of dark wood setting the tone.
The English Lounge serve a wide variety of traditional cask ales and offer an extensive wine menu, whilst the food menu is especially popular with Pride of Manchester members, who can enjoy 10% discounts.

~ Lammar's ~
This Piccadilly Basin bar has gone from being a real hidden gem to becoming one of the busiest bars in town after scooping the Pride Of Manchester Award for 'Best Bar in Manchester 2008-09' and is surely one of the favourites to reclaim the title.
Named after Manchester legend Frank 'Foo Foo' Lammar, whose picture adorns the wall, Lammars offers everything from live music, comedy nights, classic soul and funk DJs, a restaurant, function room and laid-back leather seating.
The bouncers are certainly the friendliest in town and you can see why it appeals to both the straight and gay crowds, the cocktail dressed WAG wannabes as well as Northern Quarter bohemian types.

~ The Modern ~
The amazing cocktail bar on the top floor of Urbis offers some of the best views in Manchester and they have an equally impressive cocktail and continental bottled beer list.
The Modern boast a great wine and champagne list, many available by the glass and all good value for money.
It really is the perfect place for a pre-show drink before going to the MEN Arena or Royal Exchange Theatre and will thankfully stay open when Urbis closes on the 28th February to make way for the new National Football Museum.

~ Odd Bar ~
When this Northern Quarter stalwart won the Pride Of Manchester Award for 'Best Bar in Manchester 2007-08' its owners were surprised that the award was not for its baby sister bar, Odder, which had just opened. The fact that it was so popular amongst voters 3 years after selling its first continental beer paid tribute to its everlasting charm.
Fast-forward 2 years and Odd has once again been shortlisted for the title of 'Best Bar in Manchester', the city that will seemingly never tire of this superb quirky bohemian offering.
With an amazing beer selection, live folk music, DJs spinning rare records, an incredible jukebox, ever-changing art displays, a downstairs cinema room and one of the best pub quizzes in town, we're chuffed that Odd has been voted on to the shortlist once again.

~ Odder ~
The younger bigger sister of the Northern Quarter favourite has remained one of the most populars bars along Oxford Road since opening its doors three years ago and has won plenty of votes to make it into the shortlist.
Odder replicates Odd's Bohemian love of all things weird and wonderful and the appeal to both students and business folk alike, not to mention the staff from the BBC studios opposite, is there for all to see.
With two bars set over two very distinct floors, there's so much on offer it's hard to pick the main highlight. If we're pushed... we'd say that The Travelling Band's monthly residency or the fantastic imported beers would be our favourite feature. Then again, the quirky decor with its collection of clocks, the cinema screen, the delicious food, amazing DJs, art exhibitions, incredible jukebox and... and.... and..........

~ The Old Nag's Head ~
The 2007-08 Pride Of Manchester Award winner of Best Pub has remained popular again with voters.
Situated right in the heart of Manchester on Jacksons Row, the Old Nags Head dates back to 1880 and was made famous as the local in Cold Feet.
Home to 4 pool tables, a video jukebox, function room and rooftop smoking terrace, the Old Nag's Head is one of the busiest pubs in Manchester.

~ Walrus ~
The funky Northern Quarter cocktail bar has been popular with readers of Manchester Bars.com throughout the year, polling plenty of votes to make the shortlist for Best Bar in Manchester.
The highly individual and psychedelic venue which gets incredibly busy at weekends, spreads across two floors and the feel is colourful, eclectic and stimulating with huge lightshades, a beautiful sweeping white bar and a wall length sofa.
The cocktail menu at Walrus is funky, with signature cocktails listed by their taste rather than ingredients whilst downstairs, you'll find a popular dimly lit clubbing space with feel good cheesy party tunes blended with Northern Soul, funk, soul, house and hip hop.
