The XVII Commonwealth Games is a world-class event and the biggest multi-sport event to be held in the UK since the 1948 Olympics. It will be the largest ever Commonwealth Games with athletes from 72 nations competing at venues all over the region in 14 individual sports and 3 team sports from 25 July – 4 August 2002.

There will be 46 Mancunian athletes competing for medals at the Commonwealth Games in their beloved home city. The likes of Darren Campbell, Paula Radcliffe, James Hickman and Tracey Neville may already be household names however expect many other Mancs to join that list by the end of the games.
