Sangam
Indian Restaurant Manchester - reader comments
|
| "I
have been visiting the Sangam for many years and have
always been impressed by the friendliness of
the staff and the quality of both the
food and the service. I have used it to entertain
business associates, family and friends and never been
disappointed" -

"Ok,
my reason for writing a review is because in the past
I have been very unimpressed with Rusholme curry houses.
The food in Rusholme is generally the worst I have
ever tasted, the service is poor, the decore is tacky,
the ambience is smokey and the prices are pricey.
However, I had heard good things about Sangam. I had
had friends who had eaten at the one in Didsbury and
they had been impressed. So, desperate to find a curry
house in Rusholme that I could rely on, my partner
and I decided to give the Rusholme Sangam a go.
I must say in general I was quite impressed.
My Lamb Piazo was very hot as it was supposed to be.
The consistency and flavour were good
though the lamb tasted a little bit like cheap
lamb chops. However, the vegetable
samber was slightly too sweet and the vegetables
were over done. Also, ALL the dishes were
far too oily to the point that I
had to pour the oil out onto a separate plate to get
rid of some of it - the amount that came off was disgusting.
I did mention this to the member of staff who was
collecting my plate, but he just nodded his head and
looked uninterested (he did speak English by the way
so he did understand me). I would have at least expected
him to say that he would mention it to the chef -
but alas nothing.
Also, please could you make it clear if the popadums
and the bottle of water placed on the table without
asking are complimentary or not. If they are not,
then it is customary not to bring things to the table
unless requested by the dinner.
Apart from those gripes, the food was pretty
much the best I have had in Rusholme (naan
breads a good size, Chick pea channa
very good and two draught indian beers -
Cobra and Kingfisher). Also, the staff were
on the whole quite courteous and attentive.
I would go back here if I particularly wanted to eat
in this area, but I'm afraid there are so
much better curries to be had elsewhere.
Come on Sangam, make that little bit more effort and
you could become one of the few Rusholme restaurants
to serve a decent curry. I know you may think people
don't know the difference between a good curry and
a bad one, but I assure you that many of us do."

"Myself
and three fellow doctors came to this restaurant
expecting a pleasant evening meal, the whole
experience was not pleasant, I can mark
the following as specific examples:
One of the waiters had stubble,
it was obvious he had not shaven for a number of
days. The same waiter cleared our table after popadums
and he made a racket and clanked the plates
together. He seemed to begrudge the fact
that we were in the restaurant and his whole persona
was negative.
When the food arrived it arrived after about 8 minutes,
although we ordered 4 different chicken dishes each
dish looked and tasted the same, after
around 5 minutes the curries went stone
cold, we escalated this to the waiter at
the table and he simply smiled and was not
interested.
We paid for our meal (£73) and as I was about
to leave I escalated the whole experience to the
manager who was wholly not interested in the issues
that we experienced. Even an apology was
not forthcoming.
To put the icing on the cake all four of
us had upset stomach the day after, I would
bet my last dollar that this was due to the fact
that they serviced us recycled chicken as it went
cold after 5 minutes on our plates. I have since
talked to a number of people and the common reason
why curries go cold after 5 minutes is due to the
restaurant using chicken that has been returned
from other customer that they have left over.
As the only positive to the whole experience was
the décor, very nice, it's a shame
the food, the service and specifically the manager
lets the restaurant down. Wilmslow Rd has
many other restaurants, I would not recommend
this place to anybody."
