Piccadilly
Gardens has provided Manchester with a new public space
of international standing, a fantastic public environment
hosting a mass of popular pubs, bars and hotels. During
the 2002 Commonwealth Games, hundreds of people gathered
there to watch the games on large screens and the Gardens
continue to be a popular meeting place.
This area covers a large
part of the city, bordering on to the main shopping area,
The Northern Quarter,
Gay Village, Chinatown, and
at the bottom end of Portland Street, Oxford
Road and The Bridgewater Area. |

Monroe's

|
| 38
London Road, Piccadilly, Manchester |
|
|
Like a bizarre shrine to a movie icon, Monroe's is a well-kept
pub with loads to offer is probably a little bit too far
out of town for many explorers. A cracking place to kill
the time if you're early for your train though and not too
far from UMIST and the gay village.

|
A popular bar opposite Piccadilly Gardens with shoppers,

Blaine-esque playing cards stuck on the roof. |
|

Next door to Edward's, it's just as popular and just as

Circus
Tavern
|
|
| 86
Portland Street, Manchester |
|

The smallest pub in Manchester... and we really do mean
small! No visit to the city would be complete without a
drink in here. Just don't take any friends with you - they
won't fit in! |

Street. Close distance to the Gay

 |
|
Fab
Café
|
|
| 111
Portland Street, Manchester |
|
|
A real Manchester institution and a favourite haunt of ex-Inspiral
Carpet Clint
Boon, who has a weekly DJ slot here. Dark and crazy,
it's full of sci-fi memorobilia and 1980's arcade games.
Fantastic music too with an actual Dalek in residence, but
how did he get down the stairs? |
