Manchester Pubs - Peveril Of The Peak

Manchester Bars listed by location

Manchester city centre loosely falls into 11 different areas, each with a name well known to locals and taxi drivers alike, making it easy to ask directions whilst taking the very short walk from one to another.

Below, you can find a brief description of each area together with links to a more detailed description of the bars you'll find there.

Each district offers a very different experience to Manchester's nightlife and it's possible to have a great night out in the city without even leaving one street. On the other hand, because Manchester has a very small city centre, it is possible to be more adventurous and take in a few 'quarters' in one weekend.

Below, you can also find links to pubs and bars close to the largest concert venues and sporting arenas in the city.

Deansgate Locks
Manchester city centre's most popular areas (listed in order of current popularity)...
a large collection of gay, lesbian & bisexual bars, popular with gays and straights alike
7 trendy bars in the converted railway arches on whitworth street west at the southern end of deansgate (known as 'the locks' to mancunians - 'deansgate' is a different area altogether)
modern indoor complex of 12 massive chain bars & clubs + some popular old traditional pubs across the road in the area spectacularly rebuilt following the 1996 i.r.a. bomb
Spirit - Canal Street
the mile long road which runs through the city centre, with a handful of popular bars and restaurants gathered mainly near the designer shops (not to be mistaken with deansgate locks)
very busy at weekends, this area mixes cheesy party places with fashionable bars & nightclubs
very popular bohemian area offering many independent pubs, bars & live music venues
the short road from the train station to piccadilly gardens offers a scattering of pubs, whilst walk a little further down the mile long portland street to experience many different theme bars
Cask in Castlefield Manchester
traditional pubs, wine bars and basement clubs, popular with office workers
the mile long road from the city centre to the university offers many student friendly pubs
some of the city's best pubs sit in this small area close to the bridgewater hall
the most beautiful part of the city centre once boasted the busiest nightlife in manchester. now it's sadly forgotten although some of the best independent pubs and bars can still be found here
